Welcome to the BSR International magazine Radio Show from Broad Spectrum Radio.com
Your host for tonight is James M. Branum
And this is being recorded on Sudnay, October 14, 2018, the day that Oscar Romero, the martyred Archbishop of El Salvador, killed by the US backed right-wing death squads, was recognized as a Saint by Pope Francis.
Today’s show will celebrate this day in history and San Romero’s life and death for the cause of human rights and the dignity and security of the poor.
But first I want to dedicate this program to an old friend, Bob Waldrop. He is the founder and chief troublemaker of Oklahoma City’s Oscar Romero Catholic Worker House and has been a big inspiration in my life. I first learned about Saint Romero from him, but also learned so much more, most notably how to eat well with little money and especially how to make the best gravy imaginable, all from scratch.
Bob right now is fighting cancer and he’s in the thick of it, so I just want to ask my radio answer to say a prayer on his behalf or to send out some positive energy if you aren’t into praying, because Bob has a lot more to do in his life. And of course we’ll ask San Romero to intercede for him too.
Also speaking of Bob, I encourage you to check out his website at JustPeace.org. I don’t always agree with him (because I’m not Catholic and he has a lot more faith than I have), but he always makes me think.
Also please let us know you are hearing us. Please send your QSL reports, comments, etc to us at broadspectrumradio@gmail.com.
So with that said, let’s get started with our celebration of San Romero. We’’ll start with some snippets of the news coverage of today’s cannonization, followed by an audio recording in Spanish of an excerpt of Romero’s last sermon, followed by a reading by myself of the sermon translated into English. Then we’ll have some music celebrating Oscar Romero.
Finally in our second half hour, stay tune for the BSR Radiogram. The Romero theme will continue with some pictures and art celebrating Oscar Romero, sent in digital MFSK32 mode.
